What Is a Scheduler in ComfyUI?

A scheduler controls how the noise-removal effort is spread across your sampling steps — front-loaded, evenly paced, or back-loaded. It works alongside the sampler in ComfyUI's KSampler node, but it's a separate setting with its own dropdown.

If the sampler is the algorithm doing the denoising, the scheduler decides the rhythm it follows while doing it — how much noise gets removed at step 1 versus step 15. Change the scheduler and keep everything else fixed, and you can still see a real difference in detail and contrast.

Where You'll See It

The scheduler dropdown sits inside the KSampler node, directly next to sampler_name. Common options include normal, karras, simple, and exponential.

karras paired with dpmpp_2m is one of the most common, well-tested combinations — it spends more effort on the earliest and latest steps, which usually produces cleaner detail. normal spreads noise removal evenly across all steps instead.

If your images suddenly turn blurry, noisy, or oversharpened after tweaking your workflow, check whether the sampler and scheduler still match a known-good pairing before changing anything else.
